The VLCS GUSTAV MAERSK container ship ran aground

10 Jan 2017 02:44 Danish VLCS GUSTAV MAERSK container ship ran aground near the Italian mainland near Torre Cavallo in the North of the Strait of Messina. The incident occurred during the manoeuvring of the vessel, according to fleetmon.

The condition of the container ship was inspected, no violations of the integrity of the hull was found. Leak of oil products has not occurred.

VLCS GUSTAV MAERSK took broke at 07:30 with the help of two tugs, after which it was taken for detailed examination in Gioia Tauro.

The ship was sailing from Rijeka in Gioia Tauro, Italy.
