In the first five months of 2018, the cargo turnover of Ukrainian ports amounted to 54.3 million tons

According to the data of Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA), for the period from January to May of this year, Ukrainian seaports reduced cargo turnover by 2.1% compared to the same period last year — up to 54.3 million tons.

It is noted that the decrease in cargo turnover was due to a decrease in grain transshipment (-4.9%) caused by unfavorable prices for these goods on the world market in the this period, as well as due to a decrease in cargo turnover of ore (-15.5%), which is associated with a decrease in ore mining and processing plants.

Processing of export goods decreased by 7.3% to 39,709 million tons. On the contrary, the transshipment of imported goods increased by 16% — up to 9.049 million tons, transit cargo — by 11.2%, to 4,823 million tons, in domestic traffic — by 49.3%, to 714.73 thousand tons.

At the same time, it is worth noting a significant increase in container turnover, which increased by 36.9% in the reporting period to 325 035 TEU. The processing of containers in weight terms increased by 34.4% – to 4.274 million tons.
