During the working visit to Budapest Acting CEO of Ukrzaliznytsia PJSC Eugene Kravtsov discussed with the representatives of the Hungarian state-owned railway company Magyar Államvasútak (MÁV) the prospects of developing piggyback shipments between Ukraine and Hungary. At the moment, this issue is very relevant for our state, as freight traffic in the European direction is increasing. Thus, during the 3 months of 2018, the volume of cargo transportation by rail between Ukraine and Hungary amounted to 1071.26 thousand tons, which is 168.35 thousand tons or 18.6% more than in the same period of 2017.
According to Kravtsov, piggyback transportation is an alternative to international road transport, which will allow to solve several issues at once, in particular, granting permits for international road transport, since the goods will be transferred to the railway platforms, which will minimize the impact of motor transport, including on ecology.
