According to the rating of Port Economics, the fifteen largest ports of the EU increased container turnover in comparison with the previous year by 4.2% – up to 73.4 million TEU. Thus, a significant increase in turnover was observed in ports such as Rotterdam, Genoa, Barcelona, Le Havre, Piraeus, etc. One of the main factors for increasing container turnover is the participation of lines and large holdings in the terminal capital, as well as the development of routes that connect ports with developed industrial regions inside Europe. Despite the increase in rates in most major ports, it should be noted the decrease in container turnover in such a port as Hamburg, caused by increased competition.
