11 January, 2017 in the Istanbul Strait, waiting for permission of passage, a bulk carrier Equator (IMO 9363766, flag Marshall Islands) collided with several vessels: cargo ships Georgiana H. (IMO 8911413) and Lady Alev (IMO 8411695) and Copan bulk carrier (IMO 8515025), reports Lloyd’s list.
The bulk carrier Equator heading from Izmit (Turkey) in the port of Caucasus (Russian Federation) with 21 crew members on Board. The incident occurred during a lifting anchor and began maneuvering the ship. As a result of incident nobody has suffered. Oil spill not occurred.
The coast guard tug Kurtarma 7 arrived at the scene to assist and undertake measures for the safe movement of vessels in the area. The port authorities started investigation of the incident. Before clarification of all details of the accident, the courts were forbidden to leave Istanbul.
The captain of the bulk carrier Equator was fined for violating the rules of safe maneuvering.
