Maersk announced the separation of oil and logistic businesses

The Danish group A.P. Moeller Maersk said on the reorganization and its division into two separate units. This was said in a statement.

One of them will operate in the field of transport and logistics, and the second – the oil and energy business. This measure was taken to ensure the growth and development of the downturn in the global shipping industry, and falling oil prices.

Transport and logistics division of the group Maersk Line remains the world’s largest in terms of tonnage container shipping operator.

The reorganization of the group Maersk happens in a recession in the industry worldwide container traffic, which led to a “price war” between the carriers and the sharp drop in freight rates to a level that barely covers the cost of fuel. The crisis led to the bankruptcy of one of the largest players in the industry – the South Korean company Hanjin Shipping. Falling oil prices in the spring of 2014 had a negative impact on the financial performance of the energy business Maersk
