The world’s largest container carrier is the French company CMA CGM, as well as Brooklyn-Kiev Port, SE “Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority” (USPA) and SE “Odessa Commercial Sea Port” signed a Memorandum of understanding, within which a major infrastructure project will be implemented in the port of Odessa. In particular, the French company is ready to invest 20 million euros in this project, which should significantly increase cargo turnover over the next five years. This was announced by the Minister of infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan during his working visit to France.
“Ukrainian ports open up new opportunities for foreign investors. Cooperation of CMA CGM with the Ukrainian side is beneficial for all, as it will provide investment in the development of the Odessa seaport, increase cargo traffic and, as a result, significant contributions to the budgets of different levels.
The container shipping market is very dynamic, so global port operators are more interested in increasing their capacities. Given the significant potential of Ukraine, as well as the fact that the Ukrainian authorities are interested in attracting investment in the port industry of the country in the near future, we expect an increase in container traffic through Ukrainian ports.
The signed Memorandum gives hope that in the near future in the Odessa seaport will be implemented a large-scale infrastructure project, which will attract investment in the development of the port infrastructure, increase traffic and the number of ship calls, the introduction of new production technologies, as well as create new jobs”, the Minister said.
