The loss of sea ports of Ukraine due to Russia’s actions in the Sea of Azov is more than 1 billion hryvnas (~$35 million). Such data was announced by the Minister of infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelian.
So, according to him, regular stops of the ships in the Kerch Strait entail serious losses because of idle time, and it makes approximately $15,000-50,000 a day. The average delay time of ships reaches more than 30 hours. At the same time, financial losses are felt not only by Ukrainians, but also by representatives of European counties, as products from these ports go to European markets.
The Minister also noted the fact that since the beginning of Russian military operations in the East part of Ukraine cargo traffic in Ukrainian ports has decreased almost twice. Port of Mariupol was forced to switch to a four-day working week.
Note that just before the European Parliament adopted a resolution condemning Russia’s actions in the Sea of Azov and urged the EU to strengthen anti-Russian sanctions in case of aggravation of the situation.
